Paradigms describe how we see the world, and the vast majority of those living in the industrialized world rely upon a materialistic, consumer paradigm. Consequently, when something scares us, we look to see if there is something we can buy or acquire that will help us deal with it. Chapter 6 — Reading Signs in the Atmosphere

NASA has announced they expect Earth to heat up to a level beyond anything this world has seen in the last one million years. Assuming our hominid ancestors were trying to walk upright one million years ago, we're talking about Earth changes modern man has never experienced. As a result, NASA speculates that we may see a rise in sea level of up to 25 meters. The key word here is "speculate," even though the evidence to support the NASA statement is already visible.
